Small Business Spotlight: The Plymouth Coffee Bean

Coffee shops are a staple in every city and suburb, from your Starbucks on every corner and Dunkin' Donuts drive-throughs, to cozy coffeehouses where you can take a seat and stay awhile, to work, socialize, and treat yourself to some snacks. The Plymouth Coffee Bean in downtown Plymouth, Michigan falls into the latter category, and I've spent many mornings and evenings here, so it's only fitting that I give it a feature here.

This century-old, downtown house was converted into the Coffee Bean Co. in 1993, making it the longest running independent coffee shop in the entire state of Michigan. Their menu features coffee and specialty espresso drinks, as well as teas, blended frozen drinks, Italian sodas, and plenty of baked goods and snacks from local shops and bakeries.

In addition to the outdoor patio being lovely and inviting...

...the inside still feels like a cozy living room, where you can catch up with friends or work on your laptop.

In addition to great ambience and tasty food, the Coffee Bean also hosts open mics and concerts regularly, showcasing local talent and creating an accessible environment where anyone can perform.

I have spent countless Monday nights here over the last few summers, watching my boyfriend and his bandmates perform acoustic sets at open mics, and even getting a few prime-time Saturday night concert sets as well. It's also been a great place to meet friends to hang out, work, or talk, and I've spent long afternoons studying here as well. I truly hope the Coffee Bean pulls through the pandemic; and I can't wait to visit them again once the world reopens.
