The fiery frontwoman of Paramore has broken out into solo endeavors, and she's mad about it. Hayley William's first musical release on her own tells a tale of wrath and an exhortation to Simmer Down.
This track has many of the stylings of “new” (After Laughter-era) Paramore, with a groovy drum beat and subdued, soft instrumentals. Hayley sings about counting to ten, rage in veins, and lots of simmering. It strikes an interesting balance of a mostly benign, upbeat soundtrack behind biting words, debating “how to draw the line between wrath and mercy”.
Hayley has made her failed relationships and personal struggles very public through her music and songwriting, so there is plenty of speculation on who or what the rage of this song is directed towards. However, I don't enjoy getting into drama- I'd much rather just get into the beat of the song!
