Twenty One Pilots dropped a new single out of nowhere on Thursday, so of course, I jumped right on it. Tyler Joseph, the vocals half of the two-piece band, teased the song and gave some background info on Twitter:
always writing, but this one feels like it should just come out now
first song i ever wrote on electric guitar. i think it's simple but hopeful.
This track gives a lighthearted look at our current situation, acknowledging that “the world has gone insane” and needing reassurance from loved ones to “tell me we're alright, tell me we're okay.”
There's even a line that I already know will be the caption of countless Instagram posts to come: “Would you be my little quarantine?” It's silly, but also a cute sentiment from Tyler Joseph directed at his wife, Jenna, who can be a little spot of happiness and escape from the troubles of the real world.
The track is very 80's, very catchy, and very groovy. It reminds me a lot of the band half·alive, although I'm not sure that's a fair comparison, since half·alive got their sound from Twenty One Pilots in the first place. Regardless, it's a fun single that will definitely be residing on my spring playlist (once I can drive around and blast music again).
