Monthly Mixtape – July 2020

Crashing – ILLENIUM feat. Bahari

https://open.spotify.com/track/17Efhyf4A96n0EFXKeB7Ya?si=szReqH1QSEO1aeakadSXjQ

This tune is a chilled-out version of EDM, with romantic lyrics and a dreamy, magical feel. It's one of the songs this month I haven't been able to stop playing over again!

if this is the last time – LANY

https://open.spotify.com/track/2ccNaerby1wXA993dY6XsR?si=kP9EzZXvQD2DKGyFv8le7Q

LANY's newest single is a heartfelt ballad to mom and dad, apologizing for past fights and reminiscing on everything parents do for their kids.

Girlfriend – Charlie Puth

https://open.spotify.com/track/1UNs8AlFM8c0uAkSyjIW3P?si=l9VBNouRQHS9ehEexDxzTw

Charlie Puth never disappoints, with another groovy synth track, catchy falsetto melodies, and stacked harmonies for days.

Rabbit Hole – Lauren Cimorelli

https://open.spotify.com/track/0KKXdZis3OVWPbaESArQDw?si=ZIO2XloLR0K8wbkMyMWuiA

Lauren is back with more solo music, and she just amazes me with her creativity and inventiveness every time. She described this song as an attempt to capture the chaos of a tumultuous romance, with several key changes and tempo switch-ups.

As I'll Ever Be – Chaz Cardigan

https://open.spotify.com/track/5I2lEwnYNP2xCELWSMRMe4?si=SJQWns-CQluAmhWI8XN5rw

This is probably my #1 favorite musical discovery from this month. It's from the soundtrack to the Netflix movie To All The Boys I've Loved Before: P.S. I Still Love You – the entire soundtrack is amazing, I made a whole post about it here! This song sounds like it belongs in an 80's prom scene during a slow dance, and I'm obsessed. I wouldn't be surprised if this made it onto my wedding playlist in the future.

Falling – Harry Styles

https://open.spotify.com/track/1ZMiCix7XSAbfAJlEZWMCp?si=AzJv-eg7QRqgMsv1GS9Oaw

I knew Harry Styles was a talented singer and wrote some pretty good songs, but I didn't know he was THIS GOOD. This is an emotional ballad with some incredible melodies, and his vocals are just stellar (as always).

Daydream – The Aces

https://open.spotify.com/track/778JDHI6qfgQ1HBEKP1FZu?si=4XRi_rG-SpWitIpRC7zPCA

I can't believe I still haven't listened to this band before; they've been on my radar for quite a while, and I'll definitely be adding more of this cool girl group's music to my playlists in the future.

Better By Myself – Hey Violet

https://open.spotify.com/track/77ixMBo91onYG37mAZiaUj?si=G5lV3Vx4Q6q1Lde_gEzOfQ

I sing sassy breakup songs way too aggressively for someone in a happy long-term relationship. What can I say, it's a banger.

Before You Go by Lewis Capaldi (Acoustic Cover) – Cimorelli

https://open.spotify.com/track/6UlklkZnqLbht6CdVVvkfG?si=Tw1IU0TzRaeuT2Q5-wJsjA

This is an emotional and beautiful cover of this vulnerable song about losing someone to suicide. I honestly didn't like this song after hearing the original version on the radio WAY too many times, but the girls have a funny way of making me enjoy literally any song by putting their own spin on it.

10 AM – State Champs

https://open.spotify.com/track/5X5tLJ6jZhuR1Mt325Hn8s?si=C7dqxVaCSPydJiWo1vZpBQ

State Champs' acoustic music is severely underrated, and I'm so glad they're releasing a fully acoustic EP and giving us the chill songs we want!
