IT'S HAPPENING: Mozilla Firefox Reality + Coil
If only I could make that GIF my header, that would be it.
The other day, I was scrolling through the Trending page on Coil, and I clicked on @bitznbrewz post titled “A New Wave of Coil Monetization”. They linked this article, detailing the newest development in the Coil micropayment technology: a partnership with Mozilla Firefox's new virtual reality platform.
It explains how Coil works, the $5 subscription model, and the promises of no ads or data collection. Any creator of “a blog post, an interactive experience, a 360 video, or a WebXR game that you want to share with people in Firefox Reality” can link their payment pointer to their creation and start getting paid. There's a wealth of helpful information in this article written by Anselm Hook, so if anyone is needing a refresher on Interledger and the tech behind our platform, I highly recommend you give it a look!

I chose to post my commentary on this article because, frankly, this seems like a huge deal to me.
Firefox is one of the leading web browsers in the world, and the fact that the company behind it is getting on board with the Coil payment model looks like a great sign. Exposing the gaming community to it seems especially beneficial, since paid subscription models like Twitch have proven to be incredibly lucrative and effective.
This could be Coil's “big break.”
As @bitznbrewz writes in their article:
I would expect there to be a large in-rush of new Coil users. Let's use this to our advantage by drawing folks in by producing influential, meaningful, thought-provoking, and helpful content.
Now is the best time to get started on this platform and to have heart and soul behind what you're creating. Now is the time to believe in the technology and how drastically it could change Internet content creation. Now is the time to play the long game, not to get caught up in drama or get discouraged by less-than-stellar results in your first month of creating.
I've been in communication with several friends & followers of mine on social media lately about joining and starting a blog; ever since I posted about receiving boosts from Coil, people are messaging me. People are interested.
It's so easy to recommend this site and give people motivation to begin creating, because I've reaped the benefits of it firsthand. I took the chance, I stayed committed, and now
Coil has changed and improved my life in a significant way, as well as the lives of many other creators. I couldn't be happier about Coil gaining more traction, and I can't wait for even more people to hear about it and jump on board. So, unlike Michael Scott in the scene from that GIF at the top... I'm super excited that it's happening.
