How To Get Motivated (from a very unmotivated person)

I'm not the only one who will admit that working from home kinda sucks, right?

I've been taking college classes online since last fall, and I've gotta say, having to make myself put in the time and effort to finish them on time has been rough. And by “rough,” I mean that in my first class, I had to buy a $125 extension because I wasn't going to finish on time. Yeah.

So I'm not coming on here to say that I'm perfect at being motivated all the time – far from it. I want to say that I'm human, and I'm lazy, and sometimes I just want to watch TikTok instead of writing a blog post or taking notes! But for all of you out there who need ways to kick your rear into gear while working at home right now, here are the only things that truly work for me!

...

1. Eat!

I cannot do ANYTHING when I'm hangry, especially first thing in the morning. I always need a full meal, some water, and some iced coffee in the morning before I can even think about functioning. So if you're trying to work or study, and your stomach rumbles are distracting you, I can almost guarantee that it's taking away from your brainpower as well. Eat something that will satisfy you, and drink some water to keep your body and mind fueled up and ready to work.

2. Set a timer.

The Pomodoro method timer has seriously worked wonders for me. By setting up a simple system of 20 minutes of work and a 5 minute break in between, it has really aided my ability to focus, because I know that a break is coming, and my phone or scrolling through Coil can wait until after I've taken notes for a solid 20 minutes. This works for so many other things in my life as well- cleaning a room, doing a list of chores, etc.

3. Write it down.

I am a huge fan of my planner (see my post about it here!) because it really does help to take the stress off of me to see what I have to get done PHYSICALLY written down. I use cute markers and stickers sometimes to make it look more fun, but just being able to block out time and physically check things off the list with a pen helps me actually WANT to get the tasks done.
