BONUS Single Saturday: Cry – Brenna

Today's bonus review comes straight out of DIME – Detroit Institute of Music Education, that is. Brenna Shea is a singer-songwriter with an R&B style and some serious vocal talent. I've seen her perform as a backup vocalist with Marquette at local shows, but this music is 100% hers, and she gets to show off her creativity with her first ever studio release.
This single fits right into the niche occupied by SZA or Kehlani, with a simple guitar lead and clean, lyrics about a less-than-stellar man, and impressive vocals & riffs. The song is made interesting by multiple levels of the same main melody line from the chorus, but with different vocal effects or synths and layered at different timings. It's fun to (try to) sing along with, and it's going to be stuck in my head for sure.
